Recent NDSU Grad Wins Dakota Poker League Title
In-Forum, The Associated Press
Recent North Dakota State University graduate Derek Melicher has won a seat at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in July.
Melicher, of Fargo, beat out more than 2,000 other Texas Hold 'Em players Sunday to win the title in the inaugural season of The Dakota Poker League.
Melicher, 23, said he would not have even joined the tournament back in February if not for a friend.
"My friend dragged me out to the bar to play," he said.
In Las Vegas, Melicher will be among more than 6,000 players vying for millions of dollars. He said he will spend any World Series winnings on cancer research and a trip to Fiji.
