Half Bet
Rule: |
This is a rule followed in some
casinos, not all. According to this
rule, you need to increase the bet
(when your turn comes), more than
half of the actual betting limit.
For instance, in a $3 fixed limit,
a player facing a $3 opening bet
can place $4 in the pot, and is
considered to have raised, and will
later complete his bet to $6. |
Hammer: |
Just like a hammer
works aggressive, if someone is
betting aggressively, it is called
hammering. If you are in the last
position, you will probably "have
the hammer." A hammer lock
refers to a player who as almost
100% chance of winning the pot.
|
Hard: |
If someone is said to be playing
hard, it means he is playing very
aggressively and uncompromisingly. |
| Heads
Up: |
If there are
only two people left chasing the pot,
it is called Heads Up. A one-on-one
phase of the game is Heads Up. |
High Card:
|
If the dealer dealt you two Queens
in the beginning, bingo, you grabbed
Hilton Sisters. |
Hilton Sisters: |
In a poker game,
when only two players remain in
which one player is guaranteed to
at least split pot with his opponent
before the last card is dealt, such
situation is called a freeroll.
Freeroll also refers to free entry
into a tournament. |
| Hockey
Sticks: |
If you have
a pair of sevens, then, it is called
Hockey Sticks. Of course, due to the
similarity of 7s with hockey sticks.
What else did you think? |
| Hole
Card: |
The pocket card that is dealt
to a player face-down so that other
players cannot see that card. It
is also called as down-card. |
Hooks:
|
If you get a pair
of Jacks, you got Hooks. JJ, don’t
they look like hooks? |
| Hourly
Rate: |
This
one hell of a measurement of your
poker proficiency. This is the count
of games you won or lost during one
hour. For example, if you have lost,
let’s say, $200 playing poker
for 24 hours, then, your hourly rate
is –$ 8.3.
There is another method of calculating
hourly rate: BB/Hour. That is, how
many big beats you had in an hour.
For example, if a player lost $200
playing $2-$4 limit, this means
he lost 100 big blinds over 24 hours.
So, that player’s hourly rate
is -2.5 big bets an hour.

| Idiot
End: |
This
is also called a bad end. It refers
to drawing your hand towards a low
end. For example, if you have 3 and
4 as your pocket cards and 5, 6, 8,
are your flop cards. If you even get
a 9, you are vulnerable of losing
with 10. Since amateurs try to raise
when they see a sequence without assessing
others’ hands, it is called
a idiot hand. |
| Implicit
Collusion: |
This
is similar to pot odds except that
here bets in the future are taken
into consideration. That is, if you
call a bet at the flop, you implied
odds of making bigger bets at later
stages if you hit your draw. |
| J |
|
| Jackson
Five: |
:
If you get your pocket cards J and
5, that hand is called as Jackson
Five. |
| Jacquese:
|
Well,
if you get a Jack and a Queen as your
starting hand in Texas Hold’em,
it is a Jacquese. |
| Johnny
Moss: |
Named
after the popular poker player, this
refers to a starting hand of Ace-Ten. |
