Kathy Liebert
If you want to list the most skilled
women poker players, Kathy Liebert has
to be on the top of your list. She started
playing poker in 1994 in low-limit and
won, and kept on winning. At the inaugural
Party Poker Million in 2002, she won again,
which made her the first woman to win
$1 million at a tournament. This event
also made her the first female poker player
ever to win a buy-in $5,000 in a tournament.
As well, she won 2004 World Series of
Poker $ 1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout Event.
Her success roll is unarguably one of
the best on the circuit.
Born in Tennessee and raised on Long
Island in New York, she studied business
and finance and worked as a business analyst.
Perhaps, that tells why she is such a
strategist at the poker table!
Her continuous success combined with
friends’ suggestions encouraged
her to try out her hand at poker tournaments.
Her first ever tournament was in Las Vegas
playing Omaha High-Low where she grabbed
the 2nd place. This winning followed with
another 2nd place just one week later
in Texas Hold'em tournament. With her
increasing bankroll in successive wins,
she started investing in stock market.
She says, wittily, that the stock market
investment is for backup if her poker
career ever hits a crash!
With her laurel roll, televised poker
competitions — the new breed of
poker — invited her. She appeared
in many television games ending up with
a $100,000 win at Game Show Network’s
Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes.
Kathy has been playing in many different
events at the World Series of Poker over
the years. She is currently the ranked
2nd on the all-time tournament money list
(women), and ranked 38th on the overall
lifetime money list with a winning amount
of over $2.6 million. Wow! That says it
all.
