Duke
Annie Duke — She Raised, Folded,
Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed, and Won Millions
at the World Series of Poker, and she
is the best female poker player in the
world. No doubts about it, whatsoever!
She was born and brought up in Concord,
New Hampshire. Even though she was not
born with a silver spoon, she definitely
was born with playing cards. Literally,
card playing used to keep their family
together and every one in the family had
that urge to win.
Peddling in between two schools of thought,
she matriculated at Columbia University
and decided she would try her luck in
the big city.
This pretty and smart girl has completed
English and Psychology at Columbia University
initially wanting to become a teacher
just like her parents. Nevertheless, she
jointed the University of Pennsylvania
for Cognitive Psychology.
After marrying her old-time friend and
settling in a different lifestyle away
from her research, she started playing
poker in local pokers rooms to pay the
mortgage on their home.
After a 70,000 win in 1994 World Series
of Poker, which was her first tournament,
she moved to Las Vegas to take up professional
poker, and as you know there was no turning
back for this cognitive lady. Over the
next ten years, Annie Duke got reputation
as one of the best poker players in the
world.
In 2004, Annie Duke beat out a gathering
of 234 players in the WSOP $2000 buy-in
Omaha Hi/Lo Split and won her first WSOP
bracelet. Then came the biggest event:
Duke knocked out eight of the worlds’
greatest poker players and grabbed an
astonishing $2 million in the No-Limit
Texas Hold'em winner-take-all.
Anne is currently a consultant for an
online poker website called Ultimatebet.com
and assists in maintaining that rules
and standards played on that site match
with that of card rooms in Las Vegas strip.
As well, she is very well known for her
knowledge and talent and is widely demanded
coach for poker, currently coaching celebrities
like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
She even recently endorsed the ESPN Poker
Club product line including poker chip
sets, tabletops, tables and other poker
accessories.
She even authored a book titled “How
I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed,
and Won Millions at the World Series of
Poker.” Even in the middle of such
a hustle-bustle, she enjoys her family
life very well and is raising her four
children happily.
Well, that’s Annie Duke for you.
